Why Shouldn't You Be Happy?

It is funny that when we are enjoying ourselves or having a good time, we often feel guilty about it.

It is as if we believe that we are not entitled to be happy.

Why is this so?

Often, it is because of our belief that joy is an excess, a sin, and that salvation is the postponement to the hereafter.

But why should this be so?

What Is The Soul?

Not everyone believes in god

But everyone believes in the soul

Most people perceive god as external to them

But no one thinks that of the soul

People fight over god or in the name of

But no one quibbles over the soul nor fights in its name

Now, if god is a religion, or a belief

What is the soul?

Are The Eyes Window To The Soul?

They say that the eyes are the window to the soul.

We take that as a figure of speech.

But have you really looked deeply into someone's eyes?

Or even looked deeply into YOUR own eyes?

Try this simple experiment.

Find a mirror.

Look straight and deeply into your eyes without thinking of anything in particular or of anything at all.

Don't divert your attention to the other features of your face as you may wont be.

Every time your eyes are wont to wander elsewhere or your thoughts too, bring back your focus to your own eyes.

Look deeply into them.

Go deeper

And deeper

And even deeper

A minute

Five minutes

Ten minutes

Twenty minutes

Thirty minutes...

Or more...

Don't worry about the time though

Just keep looking deeply into your own eyes

Deeper

And deeper

And even deeper...

What did you see?

Could you do it?

Or did you just chicken?
